Legibility of Type

A typography class project exploring the principles of legibility and how type choices influence readability and visual communication. The project was developed as a book, examining typefaces, hierarchy, spacing, scale, and layout through a series of designed pages and typographic studies.

For this project, I wanted to push the idea that the book itself could become an exploration of layout design. Rather than simply presenting information about typography, I treated each page as an opportunity to demonstrate the principles being discussed. Grids, margins, alignment, hierarchy, negative space, and pacing became active parts of the design, allowing the structure of the book to communicate alongside the written content.

The result is a publication that functions both as an informational resource and as a visual study of typography. Each spread experiments with how type can be organized, scaled, and positioned to guide the reader, demonstrating that readability is not only about the typeface itself, but also about the relationship between type, space, and composition.
